For patients

Your first appointment

A practical guide to your first appointment with Mr Gormack — from getting a referral through to what happens during the consultation.

Do I need a referral?

Yes — a referral is required from your GP, physiotherapist or another health professional. Your referrer will write to our rooms with a summary of your problem, relevant medical history and any imaging that has been arranged.

What to bring

  • Details of your injury or condition — when it started, what makes it better or worse.
  • Any prior treatment — physiotherapy, medications, injections, surgery.
  • All imaging — X-rays, ultrasound, MRI or CT scans, ideally on a disc as well as the report.
  • Your ACC claim number, if relevant.
  • Your insurance details, if relevant (Southern Cross, NIB, AIA, partners).
  • A list of your current medications and any allergies.

What happens at the appointment

  1. Mr Gormack will take a detailed history of your condition.
  2. He will examine the affected joint and any related areas.
  3. Imaging is reviewed together with you.
  4. The diagnosis is discussed in plain language.
  5. Both surgical and non-surgical options are explained — including likely outcomes and risks.
  6. You will have time to ask questions and discuss next steps.

Payment and insurance

  • ACC: No charge for ACC-covered consultations and procedures. Bring your claim number.
  • Southern Cross: Mr Gormack is a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider — direct claim, no upfront payment for affiliated procedures.
  • Other insurers: You will be asked to pay at the time of consultation and given a detailed receipt to claim from your insurer.
  • Private: Self-funded patients are welcome. Fees are discussed openly before any procedure.

Bringing a support person

You are welcome to bring a partner, family member or friend. Interpreters are available with advance notice — please let our rooms know when booking.
