Section 01

Scope of
practice.

Mr Gormack's practice has three pillars — Hip, Knee, and Trauma. The detail below sets expectations for an appropriate referral.

Hip

Fellowship-trained in adult and adolescent hip conditions. Mr Gormack performs numerous primary total hip replacements annually using minimally invasive techniques, plus complex reconstruction and revision surgery. Particular interest in:

Young adult hip — including dysplasia, AVN, labral tears, FAI, Perthes, and SUFE.
Arthroscopic and open hip preservation surgery.
Anterior approach hip replacement.
Revision hip arthroplasty.

Knee

Over 100 computer-navigated primary total knee replacements per year. Robotic knee replacement available for selected patients. The full range of knee surgery is offered:

Computer-navigated primary TKR (high volume).
Partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement.
Patellofemoral replacement.
High tibial osteotomy (HTO).
Revision knee replacement.
Young adult knee — ACL and other ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair, patella stabilisation.

Trauma

Complex orthopaedic trauma managed via Mr Gormack's appointment at Middlemore Hospital. Private practice covers ongoing trauma management:

Non-union and post-traumatic arthritis.
Mal-union and corrective osteotomy.
Symptomatic metalware removal.
Proximal hamstring tear repair.

refer.

Referrals accepted by phone, fax, email, or Healthlink EDI. For urgent cases, please call the clinic directly to discuss timing. Where possible, please arrange initial investigations (X-rays, ultrasound) before the specialist appointment — it allows Mr Gormack to discuss findings and decisions in the first consult.

Recommendation 01

Provide imaging

Where clinically appropriate, please arrange initial X-rays or ultrasound before the specialist appointment.

Recommendation 02

Include prior treatment

A short note on previous physiotherapy, injections, or medication trial helps Mr Gormack reach a decision faster.

Recommendation 03

Flag urgency clearly

For urgent or time-sensitive cases, call the clinic directly so reception can prioritise the appointment.
